John Sawyer Academic Award
A new fund at The Foundation will continue to honour John Sawyer – someone who has done so much for this community – the fund will continue to inspire and mentor future leaders through this effort.
John Sawyer, now retired President of the Chamber, has grown the Chamber to over 1,200 member companies that collectively employ over 42,000 people. So it was on June 27th that John was honoured at the official retirement event – featuring all of John’s favorite foods – Poutine, Sliders and Ice Cream.
The new fund, John Sawyer Academic Award, was established by The Oakville Chamber, and annually will provide a cash academic prize to a Sheridan student in the Business Program, John’s alma mater. Here are just a few things to note about John – he’s been a leader and builder in our community – some recognition for his work and support are listed below:
- A Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal recipient
- A Paul Harris Fellow recipient courtesy of the local Rotary Clubs Rotary Clubs
- James Carnegie Memorial Award recipient for leadership and mentorship, awarded by his colleagues in the Chamber network
- Chamber Executive of the year recipient for Chambers with 1,000+ members, a nomination by the The Chamber Executives of Canada
