Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic in Halton

When The Foundation set up the Oakville Resiliency Fund in 2020 to address the pandemic, it was set up with the intention of using it again in the future to address a local emergency or crisis. The recent motions by Oakville and Halton Councils declaring Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) an epidemic in our community triggered The Foundation to invoke the ORF. More than 3,500 calls for Intimate Partner Violence were made to Halton police last year, a 27% increase since 2015 – an average of 10 calls a day.
Following fundraising, in January 2024 all charities with a mandate to support IPV, including Halton Women’s Place, The Women’s Centre of Halton, SAVIS and Thrive Counselling, will be invited to the table to advise the Foundation on how to distribute the funds.
